Thousands of Haitians rioted and looted shops in Port-au-Prince, rising food prices around the world have hit Haiti particularly hard and many complain that the President has not done enough to feed the people. Protesters stormed the presidential palace demanding food and demanded the resignation of President Rene Preval. Demonstrators set up barricades and burnt tires in the capital and UN peacekeepers fired rubber bullets into the crowd, looters set UN bases on fire as they blame UN peacekeepers for the rising prices. The protests left five people dead and several injured.
